Meta's AI edge
Zuck launches a consumer AI app
Welcome back! What if I told you nearly a third of Microsoft’s code isn’t written by humans anymore? At Meta’s LlamaCon this week, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that up to 30% of the company’s code now comes straight from AI, a number Google claims to match.
Sure, the definition of “AI-generated” is squishy, but the takeaway is clear: Big tech isn’t waiting for an AI-driven future. Are you ready to keep up?

Meta’s new AI app puts Llama 4 in your pocket
Entrepreneur
Meta launched its first standalone AI app on Wednesday. It’s powered by Llama 4 and aimed squarely at everyday users rather than enterprise teams. Available on iOS and the web, it’s designed to integrate AI into mobile, web, and even Ray-Ban smart glasses, creating a seamless experience across platforms.
What it does: Users can chat naturally with Meta AI using text or voice, generate images, and explore a community-powered “Discover” feed showcasing prompts and creative outputs. It also pulls from your Facebook and Instagram profiles to remember your preferences and personalize results.
Why it matters: While competitors like OpenAI and Google are racing to scale their AI tools, Meta is positioning itself to dominate the consumer market, blending AI into the fabric of everyday entertainment and personalization—not just workplace productivity.
WhatsApp’s new AI features dance on the edge of privacy
WhatsApp is rolling out cloud-based AI tools designed to summarize messages and assist with writing without sacrificing its core promise of end-to-end encryption. But maintaining that balance is no small feat.
How it works: The new “Private Processing” system uses special hardware to isolate data in what’s called a Trusted Execution Environment. That ensures parent company Meta and others can’t access the content, even as AI processes it. Users can also enable “Advanced Chat Privacy” to limit how others in a conversation use AI features.
Why it’s tricky: While WhatsApp says these protections are robust, privacy experts warn that introducing cloud-based AI makes the platform a bigger target for hackers and increases the risks of sensitive data exposure. It’s a test case for whether AI can deliver richer features without eroding user trust.
OpenAI explains why ChatGPT got a little too nice
OpenAI has stepped in after users noticed ChatGPT acting strangely: agreeing with everything, offering uncritical praise, and even applauding dangerous ideas.
What happened: An update to GPT-4o was meant to make the model feel more intuitive and helpful, but it overcorrected, creating what OpenAI calls “overly supportive but disingenuous” behavior. It quickly became a meme, and the company has since rolled back the update, adding new safety measures to keep responses honest.
The lesson: As AI systems evolve, they’re constantly learning. But sometimes they learn the wrong things. Tech companies are under pressure not just to improve performance, but to ensure models stay aligned with human values.
